class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Em todas as sociedades compostas por grupos socialmente hierarquizados, havia indiv\u00edduos que eram mantidos sob diferentes graus de depend\u00eancia. O fato de uma pessoa pertencer a um estrato inferior, dependente de um grupo com mais poder, poderia definir para sempre a sua condi\u00e7\u00e3o social. Contudo, em outras sociedades, indiv\u00edduos poderiam ascender socialmente, inclusive acumulando poder e riqueza, sem necessariamente deixar o seu lugar no estrato que ocupava. Este era o caso dos chamados \u201cescravos senhores de escravos\u201d. Esta era uma categoria bem conhecida dos romanos, chamados de s<em>ervi ordinarii<\/em>\u00a0que, com a permiss\u00e3o de seus senhores, compravam cativos para ajud\u00e1-los em seus servi\u00e7os, dando origem a uma nova categoria social: os\u00a0<em>servi vicarii<\/em>. Na \u00c1frica, os \u201cescravos de escravos\u201d tamb\u00e9m faziam parte das complexas rela\u00e7\u00f5es sociais. Eles s\u00e3o citados na etnia Pende (Congo) e chamados de \u201cmuhiga-muhiga\u201d. Entre os sonik\u00e9 havia os \u201cn komo\u201d. Na bacia do rio Niger (Sud\u00e3o), \u201cdjon bri djon\u201d. Mas, diferente de Roma, a legisla\u00e7\u00e3o brasileira n\u00e3o reconhecia ou definia a categoria social dos \u201cescravos senhores de escravos\u201d. Antes de 1871, nenhuma lei reconhecia o direito dos escravizados de possu\u00edrem bens, apesar da grande maioria dos senhores permitirem e reconhecerem o ac\u00famulo de dinheiro para a compra de liberdade e subsist\u00eancia. No entanto, o fato de um escravo possuir um escravo era algo intrigante at\u00e9 mesmo para os contempor\u00e2neos. Perdig\u00e3o Malheiros, um dos maiores juristas do s\u00e9culo XIX, mesmo conhecendo as rela\u00e7\u00f5es entre\u00a0<em>vicarii<\/em>\u00a0e\u00a0<em>ordinarii,\u00a0<\/em>relatou o seu espanto ao ler uma carta de alforria onde um escravo impunha ao seu pr\u00f3prio escravo a condi\u00e7\u00e3o de servir o seu filho, que tamb\u00e9m se encontrava em cativeiro. Alguns estudos sobre alforria demonstram que um pequeno n\u00famero de cativos (entre 2% e 4% do total investigado) utilizaram a \u201csubstitui\u00e7\u00e3o\u201d como moeda de troca, oferecendo um outro escravo em seu lugar. Os livros de batismos tamb\u00e9m revelaram a pr\u00e1tica de escravos levarem os seus pr\u00f3prios cativos at\u00e9 a pia batismal. Assim como em todo o pa\u00eds, os casos encontrados em Pernambuco s\u00e3o diminutos, evidenciados principalmente nas propriedades beneditinas.
